What we do

Most nonprofits in the United States are small. They are run by a handful of staff or entirely by volunteers, and they rarely get coverage outside a local paper. We think the public should know more about them, and that people considering starting one should have clear, accurate guidance before they file anything.

The publication has three parts. Our editors report and write about the sector. Member nonprofits publish their own updates through the Contributor Network. The Nonprofit Playbook is a free guide to forming and running a charitable organization.

How we are funded

The Game of Giving is supported by Contributor Network memberships, a paid publishing service for nonprofits kept separate from our editorial work. If we accept sponsorships or grants in the future, we will list the funders on this page.
